Embarking on a DIY travel adventure to Europe is an exhilarating journey filled with endless possibilities and unforgettable experiences. One of the essential steps in planning your adventure is obtaining a Schengen Visa, which grants you access to 27 European countries with a single visa. I traveled to France from March 9 to 17, 2024, during Spring Break. Along with my two friends, Reijean and Jessica, we explored France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Luxembourg, Switzerland, and Italy. It was an amazing experience, and I found myself wanting to visit more countries in the Schengen area. However, we had to return to the USA for work.

Eager to experience more of Europe's culture and beauty, I went back during Summer Break. This time, I traveled alone from May 25 to June 7, 2024. During this trip, I visited France, Switzerland, Italy, Vatican City, Monaco, Andorra, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Germany, and Austria.

Requirements

  2. Passport: Your passport should be valid for at least three months beyond your planned date of departure from the Schengen area. It should have at least two blank pages.

  3. Photographs: Two recent passport-sized photos (35mm x 45mm) that meet Schengen visa photo requirements.

  4. Proof of Legal Stay in the USA: Your valid J1 Visa and DS-2019 form.

  5.   7. Proof of Financial Means: Bank statements for the last three months, a letter from your employer stating your employment status, or proof of scholarship/funding for your stay in the USA.

  8. Proof of Ties to the USA: Documents proving your intention to return to the USA, such as employment contracts, proof of enrollment in an academic program, or a letter from your institution.

  9. Cover Letter: A cover letter explaining the purpose of your visit, your planned itinerary, and any other relevant details.

  10. Visa Fee: The visa application fee (currently €80 for adults).
